Gas prices could reach record highs across the Toronto area this weekend, according to the website Tomorrow’s Gas Price Today.
The site, which tracks and predicts gas prices across the county, expects the price of gas to skyrocket to more than $1.41 per litre, passing a record set in 2011.
The news had drivers lining up on Friday, to fill up before the increase.
“It’s ridiculous, but you’ve got to deal with it,” one motorist told CBC News. “If you don’t have gas can’t do anything.”
The average price of gas in Toronto today is about 13 cents higher than it was at this time last year.
One reason for the rise, according to some analysts, is the renewed wave of violence sweeping through Iraq. The turmoil has sent fear through investors, causing a spike in the price of crude.
