Social site LinkedIn is the latest institution to try its hand at a university ranking, but LinkedIn’s approach is a little different.
It’s using its database of some 260 million subscribers to figure out which programs at which schools are likeliest to get students the job they want.
First, the site identified which companies in each field LinkedIn users consider cool -- the companies they want to work for the most. Then they looked at the various schools represented by LinkedIn users, to see what percentage of graduates landed a job at the most desirable companies.
The result? A ranking of the schools most likely to land you a job at exactly the company you want to work for.
LinkedIn’s data is based on its subscriber base, so some schools and programs may be underrepresented. And so far, LinkedIn has only provided rankings for five career categories for Canadian schools — accounting, finance, investment, marketing and software development.
Here are the top five schools in Canada in those categories. Check out the LinkedIn site for a complete listing (you’ll need a LinkedIn account to see the entire list).
