Baseball Team Turns To Cheering Robot Fans To Keep The Spirit Alive

There's plenty to cheer about when it comes to robots. They vacuum our homes. They keep the elderly company. They've even perfected the art of hitchhiking .

Now what if someone created robots that could cheer for us? Say for a struggling baseball team, which we'll call the "Hanwha Eagles" for simplicity's sake. Well, if you're an avid follower of South Korean baseball then there's a good chance you've come across Hanwha Eagles' legion of robotic fans.

The team's invested in three rows of "fanbots" at the Eagles' stadium in Daejeon, South Korea. Each bot is armed with LED placards capable of projecting messages and cheers for the beleaguered home team. And yes, they can do "the wave."

The Eagles have hit something of a dry spell, missing out on the championship for 15 years in a row. The last time they won was in 1999. This year, they're dead last in the league with 31 wins and 55 losses.

Aside from ensuring the stadium is never truly empty, the bots have become something of an attraction, drawing in fresh faces to replace a legacy fan base that's become a little too used to losing.

For more on the tricks the Hanwha Eagles' fanbots can do, give the video above a watch.
