MONTREAL - CAE Inc. (CAE) says it earned $59.9 million in its latest quarter, up from $45.7 million million a year ago, as margins improved and revenue edged higher.
The flight simulator and training company said the profit amounted to 23 cents per share for the quarter ended March 31, up from 17 cents per share a year ago.
Revenue for what was the company's fourth quarter totalled $583.4 million versus $565.6 million in the same quarter last year.
Revenue for the company's combined civil operations was $323.5 million in the fourth quarter, compared with $319.5 million last year.
Meanwhile, revenue for its military business was up six per cent in the fourth quarter at $230.3 million, compared to $217.1 million year-over-year.
CAE's new core markets business, which includes medical simulation company CAE Healthcare, saw $29.6 million in revenue compared with $29 million a year ago.
For the full financial year, the Montreal-based company said it set a record with the sale of 48 full-flight simulators, which are used to train commercial airline pilots and others.
The company's order backlog reached $4.2 billion.
For its 2014 financial year, CAE earned $191.1 million, or 73 cents per share, compared with a profit of $140.7 million, 53 cents per share, for the previous year.
Revenue was $2.115 billion, up from $2.035.
